Guest Popster poster again

Last night Dawg asked me to guest post on his blog today so that's where I posted. I've been wanting to chronicle the Squishable family for a while now, and here was the perfect opportunity to do so.

Poppy, Snuffy, Dawg

Please go visit Dawg's blog for the story. Thank you!

In case you ever wanted to know where half of my genes came from…

My mom had a layover in New York so she had the pleasure of meeting Dawg for the first time ever then doing a Cereal Wednesday in a bar with really loud calypso music.

Go Vols! Hi, Mom! :grins:

little tiny ninjas

That's what's on Dawg's desk. How do I know? Because I'm sitting at it, typing to you. And when I look over to my left I see a shitload of my stuff that I brought down here so that I can live here temporarily while we look for a place of our own.

As expected, leaving the cats wrecked me. I can't think about it for too long without bursting into tears. I left my kids at home. I left them in capable hands, but they're not Dawg's and my hands, which is where I want them to be. Incentive to hurry the hell up and find a place to live.

Also, saying goodbye to EZA and LLA was painful, but… it really hurt much worse when Break Boy and HLW said goodbye to me. Break Boy and I have years 6-8 then years 18-34 together. HLW and I have my years 14-34 (her years 15-35) together. These are lifelong friends. And I just left them. And now my eyes are all wet. No wonder I have such a splitting headache.

I totally forgot to say goodbye to PiC yesterday. I feel bad about that, after all he did for me to send me off right. But… what would we have done? Given an uncomfortable "see ya" hug? When I crossed into Connecticut this morning, my first time ever being there, I was reminded again by his birthplace that I forgot to say goodbye to him. Sorry… I'll make it up to you in the future by babysitting Too Legit and Nigel because, um, I'm just in the next state over, it's really not that far. Just gimme 7+ hours notice, kthxBAI. (Peee Essss - Thanks for not letting anyone sing at me.)

I just had Chinese food with Dawg's parents. They love me. Life is very good.

Life will be made better when Dawg gets home from work tonight and slips into (hee, our… ok, ok, HIS bed but I get to sleep there EVERY NIGHT NOW, wheeeeee!) bed next to me, and of course a little later on when the girls can join us in that bed in our new home together, but I'm hardly complaining. Everything feels amazingly right, as I never doubted it would.

You are the beary best

…just because.

You Are The Beary Best

Dawg created this award then gave it to me along with a bunch of other very deserving people. Now I'm passing it on.

Rules:

1) The Beary Best Award is given to those people who we want to know we care… just because
2) See rule #1

I am picking one whole Beary Bester because I'm being extra crispy quirky today.

I choose ACW because tomorrow is his last day of blogging and I'm going to miss him. *sniffle*

kitty kisses

It was another fantastic weekend with Dawg, extra special because he shared my birthday with me. When it was time to go on Sunday he packed up all of his things and we exchanged Squishy Dawg (who is now with me) for Squishy Octopie (who is now with Dawg) so that prying kid hands wouldn't damage Octopie's exposed brain (long story, but we've decided we need to get him a helmet rather than a thread and needle session) but I still have someone to squish and converse with.

We both had our hands piled high with things for Dawg to take with him, at which point I asked him, "are you planning to come back inside?" He gave me a confused look. "Ripley," I whispered. Dawg set all of his things back down and went to say goodbye to her. She was not having that and gave him the "you are NOT leaving me!" cold shoulder. He did his best to say goodbye to her then we gathered his things and said our goodbyes at the truck.

I walked back into the house and the scent of his body spray was strong at the door. Ripley was purring and dancing and looking anxiously up at me from the entryway floor. I burst into tears, scooped her up, and said, "I'm sorry, mama, but he's gone." I nuzzled her and hugged her tight while she purred her anxious purr and swallowed a bunch of times, headbutting me until she got all of her anxiety out. "I promise you, soon you will see D every day. He will leave for the day but he will come back and give you hugs and kisses. I promise, little girl, I promise."

Content that what I had just said was an acceptable future for her, she hopped down, sauntered over to the kitchen, then jumped into her window box and went back to dreaming…

…of him.

Birfdy recap

Dawg came to visit me Thursday night even though he never actually admitted he was coming to see me. (I love surprises, which I'm guessing is why he did that. He kept trying to tell me he was having conversations with Squishy Dawg even though I heard car and road sounds… mmmmhmm.)

We went to sleep after a little conversation of our own.

I woke up and it was my birthday.

I dragged Dawg to lunch at my favorite Chinese restaurant.

I dragged Dawg to the waterfront to walk around and then drink beverages to rehydrate us.

I dragged Dawg to the tallest free-standing filing cabinet art in the entire world.

I dragged Dawg to my storage unit to show him all the stuff I'll eventually be bringing with me. (He did not freak out. He's weird.)

I dragged Dawg to the Lake Champlain Chocolates factory to make him buy me chocolates. (heeheeheeehheeenheheeeeeheeee num)

I kindly brought him home where boxes were waiting outside my door.

Dawg dragged the presents inside.

I opened the presents.

I love my presents. … Oh, hmm, you wanted to know what they ARE? Think Keurig. I've wanted one of those damn things for years. Dawg had no idea, and yet he got me one anyway. He reads my mind. He also got me extra coffee singles and a book of coffee recipes and the movie This is Spinal Tap. :grins:

I primed my Keurig then we had a coffee.

My mom called to wish me a happy birthday. Apparently I forgot to mention to her that I haven't moved yet. Oopsie.

Dawg and I had a conversation with Squishy Dawg.

Dawg and I went to see a pencil disappear. I liked that trick very much. I liked Heath Ledger's character waaaaaaay too much, and am starting to wonder if I am a psychopath. We had popcorn, 44 oz sodas (we each had one), and candy.

I checked my voicemail after the movie and heard my stepdad singing to me. bleep.

Dawg and I discussed the movie on the way home and it has now been confirmed for the millionth time that Dawg leads a very exciting life.

We got home to find the cats had not cleaned up after my tornadoing of the apartment with the gift wrap and boxes and packing materials.

I couldn't stand the fuzz on my teeth from all the candy so I brushed my teeth.

I wrote this recap.

Here we are.

Thanks to all who emailed me, sent me cards, wrote on my Facebook wall, and made posts about me. Also, thanks to some guy who sent me dinosaur forks and spoons.

Um, in case anyone left on the planet didn't know, my birthday was today. I'm 21, for the 14th year in a row. (Use your fingers to count and you'll realize that's correct.)

At least the Yankees won for once

You know what's not so fun? Getting a call from my boyfriend that starts, "I had a little incident at work today."

You know what is fun? Trying to have a normal conversation with him while he's all looped up on muscle relaxers. "Boobies!" was randomly exclaimed at least once.

I love that man…

(He's fine, and if there's YouTube video of The Incident one of us will be sure to share, but it involved a beer truck and a ramp and HIS BODY… And you wonder why I am so anxious to leave France. Can you even freaking HANDLE that I am not there to take care of him?!! Well, I can't!!!!)

July 3, 2008

oh my goodness, I had no idea!

Today is Dawg's 34th birthday. Did you know that?!

I DIDN'T KNOW THAT!!!

(and if you believe I didn't know you're just straight up gullible. :winks: )

Go wish him a happy birthday!

seriously-ishable

Thank you to everyone for your kind words Friday night and yesterday. I know DJ is not my son, but I care an awful lot about his dad and I will always have a very special place in my heart for that kiddo. Thank you to everyone who remembered.

In classic Poppy fashion, I'm completely changing the subject to encourage you to go to Squishable.com and buy huge stuffed animals for your loved ones. Yes, they're expensive, but it's because they're human-sized!

And in the randomest feat of all, I will now do a meme that I stole from Tori:

1. Father went to college?
No. Although, ironically, he worked for one for 35 years.

2. Father finished college?
See 1.

3. Mother went to college?
She has taken some classes in her mature life, but did not go during the traditional after-high-school years.

4. Mother finished college?
Nope! She don't need no stinkin' college, I assure you, but she'll probably finish one day so she can start writing books. She's a writer who has no time to write.

5. Have any relative who is an attorney, physician, or professor?
My great uncle was a pathologist. He is slightly famous here, but is no longer living.

6. Were the same or higher class than your high school teachers?
Huh? I read Tori's answer, so I guess this is supposed to be about social/economic standing, but it's still a weird question.

7. Had more than 50 books in your childhood home?
Way more.

8. Had more than 500 books in your childhood home?
Yes, that makes more sense.

9. Were read children’s books by a parent?
Not so much…

10. Had lessons of any kind before you turned 18?
No.

11. Had more than two kinds of lessons before you turned 18?
See 10. Oh, wait! I had gymnastics for like half a minute when I was 8. Totally doesn't count.

12. The people in the media who dress and talk like me are portrayed positively.
This is a weird question to me. I don't even know how to answer it.

13. Had a credit card with your name on it before you turned 18?
No.

14. Your parents (or a trust) paid for the majority of your college costs?
I went to college via tuition remission ($0 for classes) because my father worked at the university. I walked out of college debt free.

15. Your parents (or a trust) paid for all of your college costs?
My mom gave me some money for books, I had to pay the rest of the fees associated with college that weren't class. (Room, board, lab fees, rest of book money.)

16. Went to a private high school?
Uh, heh, NO.

17. Went to summer camp?
I went to religious camp for seven Memorial Day weekends in my youth, but to clean the camp up for the paying customers. Those were fun times… How did I go to that camp for seven years of my life but don't remember what it's called or where exactly in New York I was? Hmm.

18. Had a private tutor before you turned 18?
A private one? I had an algebra tutor in 8th grade because I was sick so much that year I didn't even get to master negative numbers before the final exam, but it was done at school during my study period.

19. Family vacations involved staying at hotels?
Yes, when we weren't camping.

20. Your clothing was all bought new before you turned 18?
I don't recall. Didn't have an older sister for hand-me-downs, but I can't promise that none of my clothes were from thrift stores.

21. Your parents bought you a car that was not a hand-me-down from them?
No. I did have their hand-me-downs from age 17-22.

22. There was original art in your house when you were a child?
No.

23. You and your family lived in a single family house?
From age 6-8 I lived in a house with Mom, her boyfriend, and one of his four sons. From age 11-15 I lived in a house with Mom, my maternal grandmother, and my maternal uncle. So, yes to single family house, but never in a traditional sense. :smiles: When I was 17 I moved into a brand new condo with my mom and new stepdad. I lasted two years before going absolutely insane and needing to move out despite not quite making enough money to support living away from home.

24. Your parent(s) owned their own house or apartment before you left home?
See 23.

25. You had your own room as a child?
My brother lived with my dad, as did my sister who I never talk about (complicated!), so I always had my own room at home.

26. You had a phone in your room before you turned 18?
Heh… as soon as I got on the BBS my mom was pretty much forced to buy me my own phone line if she ever wanted to use the phone. She could have said no, but I was a really hard core introvert, so she was just happy I was socializing with someone!

27. Participated in an SAT/ACT prep course?
No. Well, if by "course" you mean "activity book" then yes, but you don't mean that. :winks:

28. Had your own TV in your room in high school?
Yes. TV junkie. Had cable but no VCR.

29. Owned a mutual fund or IRA in high school or college?
Nope.

30. Flew anywhere on a commercial airline before you turned 16?
No.

31. Went on a cruise with your family?
I've never been on a cruise.

32. Went on more than one cruise with your family?
See 31.

33. Your parents took you to museums and art galleries as you grew up?
Yes, Mom took me to a ton of them. My favorite, hands down, is the Boston Museum of Science.

Wow, that's the end! Ok, then. :smiles:
