parting party

Saturday morning I woke up too early and got dressed then brought all my stuff upstairs, kissed Dawg "bye!", then packed everything in the car to head to VT for EZA's birfdy party and to drive the girls Home. Did I mention I woke up too early? Yah, I kinda was a little groggy despite my yummy iced Americano from ESparks and ended up taking the L.I.E. west instead of east so ended up in Manhattan at Park Avenue during a bike race. Did you know New York City has big, tall buildings? Did you know those big, tall buildings make your GPS lose satellite reception? heh. They do!!! When I finally got out of Manhattan it was smooth sailing to VT.

When I arrived I spent a few minutes with the human kids first, brought in all my stuff except EZA's presents so he wouldn't get allll exciiiiiiited, then I rushed into the guest bedroom at which point Ripley instantly started mewing, "Mama! Mama!" at me. Everyone came out for hugs then I gave them a treat, scooped their litter box, gave them fresh water, gave them more love, then headed out into the rest of the house to clean up for the party the next day. I know I kept sneaking back into the bedroom for more cuddle time, and I know I was pretty tired that night, with my feet hurting, but I can't remember all that I did. … Oh! Yes… The party store. I spent over an hour chasing LLA around the party store while EZA and HLW picked out piñata and goodie bag and treasure hunt items, then we went to the Chinese restaurant. HLW and I scoured the menu for the million yummy things we wanted to eat, then everyone else went outside while I ordered a fountain soda Coke, downed it in 15 seconds, then went outside to play while the food cooked. We had Long Trail Belgian white beer with dinner then after dinner when the kids were in bed Break Boy, HLW, and I looked in the Amish Market bag I brought that contained lots of yummy chocolates. We pulled out the mini chocolate bottles filled with real alcohol (yah, like 1/8th ounce per chocolate) and taste tested. I had the espresso one to counteract the alcohol so I could make it to bedtime without falling asleep where I stood, then I switched to Reese's peanut butter cups. :smiles: Classy Poppy. (Or is that Klassy?) After bedtime phone call with Dawg I fell asleep, completely worn out, with the girls on the bed.

Had a hard time waking up the next day so I went straight for the caffeine and a shower. After that I was able to get motivated so while EZA was otherwise occupied I snuck to the car and got his presents from the hot, hot car. Let me just tell you that gift bags are not meant to withstand 100+ degree heat, so the bag I had shoved Squishy Bunny into burst open at the seam.

Duct tape repaired the damage and I was able to stuff the bunny back into the bag. We all did prep work for the party, including making honey oat bread with LLA (yum!).

Then the party started: Greeting everyone, refreshments, cake, alien piñata, gifts (his favorite gift: Squishy Bunny Universe-ity Mr. Nibbles Fluffball!), sandbox treasure hunt.

Then I got exhausted from the hot sun and went to lie down for a minute while the party continued. An unknown time later I woke up in a pile of my own drool and the party was winding down after water balloon fights and pool time for the kids. After everyone else took off I poked my head out of the bedroom and hung out with the family to make yummy veggie stir fry over crystallized ginger basmati rice (*DROOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOL*). Then we had another little party of EZA opening the rest of the gifts I bought him, which were mostly alien and robot themed paper, pencils, erasers, rulers, markers, toys, and stickers from Borders, at which I am now a Borders Rewards member thanks completely to EZA. :smiles:

After dinner the kiddos went to bed and Break Boy, HLW, and I watched recorded Olympics then I went to the bedroom for a bedtime phone call with Dawg where we swapped stories about our awesome days. I went to sleep completely exhausted again, with the most important task ahead of me.

I woke up the next morning with kitties surrounding me, got up to take a shower and finish packing that I fit in most of the day before but don't really remember when, then it was time to go. The girls mewed for the first hour, but after that they completely settled down. Best part — NO drugs were used to get them to calm down. We stopped off at a gas station at the 3-hour mark and had water time. Dawg is obviously psychically tuned to our station because he happened to call me right then when I wasn't driving to tell me news: OUR APARTMENT IS READY FOR US TO MOVE IN! Yup, that's right, we now are the proud renters of a top floor apartment overlooking a quiet neighborhood with the cheapest rent I've heard of in New York history, AND ALL THREE GIRLS ARE PERMITTED TO LIVE THERE WITH US. WOOHOOOOOOOOOOOOO! During the rest stop I called to make plans with the apartment building owner to meet for lease signing and key exchange then the girls and I hit the road for the end of our journey to Queens.

Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh. The kitties absolutely love being here. Too bad they need to move one more time, but I know they'll love the apartment. LOTS of windows with huge sills for them to bask in, lots of closets to hide in, a long hardwood floor hallway to run and slide down, a huge tub for them to play in, a huge kitchen sink for them to stand in while they drink from the faucet, and lots of doors (seven inside the apartment) for them to hide behind to scare the shit out of each other. :grins:

Up this week: Phone interviews (the one I had today went a'ight, but I prefer in-person interviews), apartment move-in prep, and lots of kitty lovin' from me and Dawg. :kitteh:

Guest Popster poster again

Last night Dawg asked me to guest post on his blog today so that's where I posted. I've been wanting to chronicle the Squishable family for a while now, and here was the perfect opportunity to do so.

Poppy, Snuffy, Dawg

Please go visit Dawg's blog for the story. Thank you!

sluuuuuuuuuuugs

sluuuuuuuuuuugs

LLA holds her collection of slugs. Love her hand in motion. She's used to holding toads so she instinctively was covering her hand to make sure the slugs didn't escape.

From the desk of EZA

HLW sent me an email into which EZA left me a personalized message: "HELLO!!! can you please play with me dude?!~?"

*giggle*

I told you his new favorite word was dude. Apparently we will be playing later today. I sooooo wanna skip that whole cleaning up the apartment shit, but I still need the reference.

Grrrusky and Pwnie

Ok, that was really weird. I had just finished talking to Dawg and was literally 3 seconds away from closing down the laptop when I got an IM from an old friend and now all of a sudden on my way home from NYC Monday I'm detouring to her house to have some lemonade. This is my life.

Anyway, what I was going to post about was my Webkinz Grrrusky and Pwnie that Dawg gave me the last time I visited. I posted a picture of their furry selves with Squishy Octopie, but here are photos of their virtual world.

Grrrusky and Pwnie

Yes, Grrrusky is a pirate and Pwnie is a princess. What else would they be??? :pfft:

furry family

I am taking Grrrusky and Pwnie to France with me. Squishy Octopie stays home in NYC.

seriously-ishable

Thank you to everyone for your kind words Friday night and yesterday. I know DJ is not my son, but I care an awful lot about his dad and I will always have a very special place in my heart for that kiddo. Thank you to everyone who remembered.

In classic Poppy fashion, I'm completely changing the subject to encourage you to go to Squishable.com and buy huge stuffed animals for your loved ones. Yes, they're expensive, but it's because they're human-sized!

And in the randomest feat of all, I will now do a meme that I stole from Tori:

1. Father went to college?
No. Although, ironically, he worked for one for 35 years.

2. Father finished college?
See 1.

3. Mother went to college?
She has taken some classes in her mature life, but did not go during the traditional after-high-school years.

4. Mother finished college?
Nope! She don't need no stinkin' college, I assure you, but she'll probably finish one day so she can start writing books. She's a writer who has no time to write.

5. Have any relative who is an attorney, physician, or professor?
My great uncle was a pathologist. He is slightly famous here, but is no longer living.

6. Were the same or higher class than your high school teachers?
Huh? I read Tori's answer, so I guess this is supposed to be about social/economic standing, but it's still a weird question.

7. Had more than 50 books in your childhood home?
Way more.

8. Had more than 500 books in your childhood home?
Yes, that makes more sense.

9. Were read children’s books by a parent?
Not so much…

10. Had lessons of any kind before you turned 18?
No.

11. Had more than two kinds of lessons before you turned 18?
See 10. Oh, wait! I had gymnastics for like half a minute when I was 8. Totally doesn't count.

12. The people in the media who dress and talk like me are portrayed positively.
This is a weird question to me. I don't even know how to answer it.

13. Had a credit card with your name on it before you turned 18?
No.

14. Your parents (or a trust) paid for the majority of your college costs?
I went to college via tuition remission ($0 for classes) because my father worked at the university. I walked out of college debt free.

15. Your parents (or a trust) paid for all of your college costs?
My mom gave me some money for books, I had to pay the rest of the fees associated with college that weren't class. (Room, board, lab fees, rest of book money.)

16. Went to a private high school?
Uh, heh, NO.

17. Went to summer camp?
I went to religious camp for seven Memorial Day weekends in my youth, but to clean the camp up for the paying customers. Those were fun times… How did I go to that camp for seven years of my life but don't remember what it's called or where exactly in New York I was? Hmm.

18. Had a private tutor before you turned 18?
A private one? I had an algebra tutor in 8th grade because I was sick so much that year I didn't even get to master negative numbers before the final exam, but it was done at school during my study period.

19. Family vacations involved staying at hotels?
Yes, when we weren't camping.

20. Your clothing was all bought new before you turned 18?
I don't recall. Didn't have an older sister for hand-me-downs, but I can't promise that none of my clothes were from thrift stores.

21. Your parents bought you a car that was not a hand-me-down from them?
No. I did have their hand-me-downs from age 17-22.

22. There was original art in your house when you were a child?
No.

23. You and your family lived in a single family house?
From age 6-8 I lived in a house with Mom, her boyfriend, and one of his four sons. From age 11-15 I lived in a house with Mom, my maternal grandmother, and my maternal uncle. So, yes to single family house, but never in a traditional sense. :smiles: When I was 17 I moved into a brand new condo with my mom and new stepdad. I lasted two years before going absolutely insane and needing to move out despite not quite making enough money to support living away from home.

24. Your parent(s) owned their own house or apartment before you left home?
See 23.

25. You had your own room as a child?
My brother lived with my dad, as did my sister who I never talk about (complicated!), so I always had my own room at home.

26. You had a phone in your room before you turned 18?
Heh… as soon as I got on the BBS my mom was pretty much forced to buy me my own phone line if she ever wanted to use the phone. She could have said no, but I was a really hard core introvert, so she was just happy I was socializing with someone!

27. Participated in an SAT/ACT prep course?
No. Well, if by "course" you mean "activity book" then yes, but you don't mean that. :winks:

28. Had your own TV in your room in high school?
Yes. TV junkie. Had cable but no VCR.

29. Owned a mutual fund or IRA in high school or college?
Nope.

30. Flew anywhere on a commercial airline before you turned 16?
No.

31. Went on a cruise with your family?
I've never been on a cruise.

32. Went on more than one cruise with your family?
See 31.

33. Your parents took you to museums and art galleries as you grew up?
Yes, Mom took me to a ton of them. My favorite, hands down, is the Boston Museum of Science.

Wow, that's the end! Ok, then. :smiles:
