knockin’ boots

I am absolutely sick of window shopping for new boots.

I bought these great boots (see below) the weekend after I started my job, but I pretty much wear them every day because they’re the only shoes I own that don’t hurt my ankle, but they already have holes in the soles.

Dawg is licking my boot!

Dawg is licking my boot!

I REPEAT: DAWG IS LICKING MY BOOT!!!!!

I REPEAT: DAWG IS LICKING MY BOOT!!!!!

DID I EVER MENTION I HAVE A BAD ANKLE?

This one time when I was younger I was being chased around the house and I fell on a pair of high heels, ironically enough, and sprained my ankle. The ankle was not treated properly at the ER, and I was a kid so, duh, I didn’t let it heal properly, and now I am 34.a-bunch and my ankle fucking HURTS if it’s not supported properly, and it in turns hurts my knee and my back if I am not careful. It took me a really long time to realize the correlation between the injuries, cuz I’m SMAHT, but I know how this is the truth of my physical condition, and ankle replacements are far from perfected.

So, dear readers, perhaps you can hELP mE oUT, because it is ALWAYS boot weather in NYC. I need boots that:

. Support my ankle
. Are comfortable for walking (NYC blocks) and STANDING (an hour+ on the train)
. Look fashionable
. Are NOT SLIPPERY ON THE SOLES! I need my traction!
. Are one solid color – black or DARK brown
. Fit under pants (they can be under the knee or ankle boots, but no hooker boots)
. Don’t have a very high heel, but have a bit of a heel (1-2″)
. Are less than $150 per pair
. Come in size 9
. Are not previously owned
. Are at an online store — a reputable online store
. Are not the boots pictured above

Ok, go!

(no pressure)

PS — Oh, look! A much better photo of my boot when it was NEW!

  1. Good to know that Dawg has enough of a freak in him to lick your boots. I hear good things about Zappos from the lovely lesbians in my life, but I have not personally experienced them myself.

  2. Try Zappos.com. I buy 80% of my shoes from there because the selection is amazing (all price points), the customer service is phenomenal, and you get your shoes shipped to you in less than 2 days most of the time. They even have reviews!! Here is the link to their boot area: http://www.zappos.com/womens-boots. A very close second is Piperlime.com: http://piperlime.gap.com/browse/categorySearch.do?cid=19794. Their service is awesome, too…but their price points are kind-of high. Let me know what you think.

  3. I know it’s not clear from all of my insane bullet points, but I’ve already spent hours looking at online stores for boots that meet the criteria above. I’m now looking for someone to suggest the actual BOOTS.

  4. OMG you need to come to Dutchyland to shop for boots. Dutchyland is BOOT country! Every US friend of mine that comes over here is amazed at almost all women walking around on boots here, most of the time… (me included, heh)

  5. Okay – flat out, hands down, Doc Martens. There’s a reason I own 3 pairs (2 of them boots) and the actual boots are on sale at Zappos.com. They are comfortable and oh man – once they’re worn in they are HEAVEN. Just go look at the link (I highly recommend the shoes, too.) I have back issues- really. These boots – all their boots- rock.

  6. Why not some high backed sneakers instead? I’d have to think those would be better for walking a lot than boots.

  7. Uh… if those are so good and you hate to let them go, why not just get them re-soled?

  8. Hi…I’m usually just a lurker, but I thought I would share my boots with you that I LOVE. I have weak ankles and these have always served me well. Some of the reviews from people say they don’t offer enough arch support, but I already where them with insoles so I’ve never really noticed a problem.
They are from L.L. Bean and are Teva Ventura Zip Boots..located here:

    http://www.llbean.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/CategoryDisplay?categoryId=57078&storeId=1&catalogId=1&langId=-1&feat=pprv

I also own their “Beans Everyday Sneakers” which are equally awesome as far as comfort goes. If I’m not in my boots, I’m in these and my feet stay pretty happy :)

Anyway..I’m not sure they have the heel your looking for, but I hope that helped a little!

  9. After spending hours searching the internet for my own pair of cute & comfy boots I discovered that JCPenney dot com actually has a good selection of boots. I bought three different pairs, each on sale for less than half the original price. They’re really good quality, too… nice leather and details.

  10. Look, makes no sense trying to avoid the age-induced maladies you’re so obviously afflicted with.

Just go straight to the walker. You can pimp it out with streamers and ipod connections.

  11. Trust me when I say: You do not want your feet too close to the ground in NYC. Icky.

    Thanks for all your suggestions!

  12. I with Sybil. I’m a runner, and close to marathon time I need suit compatible foot support and I wear docs. (they also seem to last forever….)

  13. Any luck yet? I know I order online from Zappos or Shoes.com but I don’t have any actual book recommendations. Sorry!

  14. Thanks again, everyone! A post about boots purchased will be published in the near future. (Monday if nothing extremely eventful happens between now and then, other than MOTHER’S DAY and STAR TREK!!!!)
