So, I still ride the E train.
Today I looked out the window and saw that someone had placed an orange Post-It note on it so that it flapped in the wind while we rode. I watched it and smiled and giggled and thought about the lead-up to that Post-It’s placement.
Unfortunately, some crazy man at least twice my height (ok, not really) was swinging his entire body and his hard hat around the train so I had to move or be hit, and lost sight of the Post-It. And then got whacked in the back with a backpack and then got a seat but got sat on by a couple of 11-year-olds who probably stick their tongues on each other in inappropriate places. So, really, the Post-It was the best part of the trip. Lots of driving way too fast for the track then stopping short due to “congestion” from other trains. I did make it home in one piece, so that’s a plus!
Oh, and the news is reminding me that there is a proposal to cover budget gap and repairs by hiking the $2 subway fare 25-30% and cutting back on service by eliminating the W and Z lines, cutting back on G and M, then taking away a bunch of weekend trains. One of the newscasters jokingly recommended having tourists pay for the hike instead. Cuz, ya know, they are visiting and they expect NYC to be fucking expensive so let’s stick it to ‘em. Sounds good, actually. I spend $4/day on the subway right now. * 50 weeks * 5 days = $1000. Soooooo, they want me to pay $1250-$1300 a year. Sooooooooooooo, they can suck their own joystick. Win-win!
That’s a frightening ammount of money…
That’s a pretty hefty hike, but if they start eliminating lines, what a mess they’ll have on their hands. I can’t even imagine.
That shows just how back in time these fools are… we don’t use “joysticks” anymore… we use game controllers. I do like the tourist idea though… not that it would stop them from looking up while crossing the street against the light or anything… ’cause you know… that would be smart.
Oh wait.
I think I know what you mean by joystick now.
Ewww.
YES! Stick it to the tourists!!
Oh… wait a minute… I’m a tourist.
Can we find somebody else to stick it to? How about New Jersey? Is there any way we can get them to pay for it?
I say you stick it to the Canadians. From Canadia.
Do they not have the unlimited weekly passes anymore? The last time I was in NYC, they were $24 for the week, which made it a great deal for getting on and off where ever we wanted to go, E trains included.
And if they are going to stick it to the tourist, how do they tell the locals and tourists apart? Show your drivers license? Yeah, that’ll work for NYC residents.
Actually, they’re looking to bring back the commuter tax against out of city residents working in the city… so Jersey’s gonna get there’s.
I think proof of city residency by showing a DL is a great idea. This way it gets stuck to the tourists and the illegals.
:grins:
Here in Florida, “Stick it to the tourists” is our motto. They have all these lovely taxes that they add on to your hotel room so we don’t have to pay income taxes.
Even if they hike up the rates for tourists it’s still cheaper than taking a cab.
Taxing tourists and commuters is just a way to raise taxes without losing votes, since the tourists and commuters don’t get a vote. On the other hand, they get to vote with their dollars — at least the tourists do — so you have to be careful not to over tax them to the point that you end up losing revenue. The commuters are just screwed.
I love Post It’s.
That is all.
Just stopping by to let you know that in no way shape or form did I take offense to your comment from my post the other day. I looked for your email address, and I guess I didn’t look hard enough because here I am writing a comment instead. Ha!
I think your advice from the other day was 100% dead on!!
Oh and you pay what to ride the subway?? And they want you to pay more! Holy Moly!
I’m trying really REALLY really hard to feel bad for you but we pay way more than that in car payments, insurance and gas a month. LOL Why couldn’t we all just have hover boards? That would soooo rock and be way less expensive!
I understand. We deal with that in Chicago. and though I have taken the “L” in the past, I know that my girls are taking it now.
The issue is not the trains but them understanding the buses.
We’ll get there
Yikes. Haven’t ridden the e in a while, but it’s good fodder for blog posts.
