Fowl.

My feed reader is so disorganized. So far I’ve only found one blog that mentioned the (second) presidential debate from last night. Or, at least, I only recall the one. And since that blogger probably doesn’t care for me so much I’m steering clear of leaving a comment there so I’ll say here: It annoyed me that Tom Brokaw kept whining at Obama that he was going over his time limit or asking to respond to a question, but not much to McCain. I thought the “hired help” was supposed to be impartial, but it was clear to me that Brokaw respects and approves of McCain more than he does Obama.

I am a Vermonter and am therefore obligated by birth to be a democrat. But that’s not my point. My point is that Brokaw is a whiny little bitch.

Ok, really, my point is that I saw unfair treatment of one candidate over another last night and I don’t approve.

If I base my vote purely on the outcome of the Presidential and Vice Presidential debates I’m going to need to do a write-in of Joe Biden for president. But, if I think back to the last eight years and realize that (what’s our VP’s name? Puppet Master? Rifle-to-your-friend’s-face-master? Whatever…) was always the brains behind GWB then I guess I can stand for Biden being an intelligent and informed voice for President Obama.

Even if he did plagiarize parts of his speech during his 1988 run for president.

Because who hasn’t plagiarized?

(Oh, shush, you have too. Remember 6th grade “reports” where you just copied encyclopedias because you didn’t understand the difference between writing your own opinion and what was on a page in front of you? Yah.)

Anyway, I know some of my readers and very dear friends are Republicans (I sleep with one), but this here’s mah blawg, so I’m just getting out of my head what’s been rattling around.

  1. I’m an independent, so I see where a lot of people are coming from. However, nothing about Palin impresses me, except her sheer ignorance. Biden looks better by default, IMO. I admit I didn’t see a lot of partiality, but I got fairly bored by the debate. I’ve made my choice, so it’s all just repeating of things at this point (but I still watch!).

  2. You sleep with a republican? Poppy dear, I think there’s a cream for that! My post on the debate is coming up this afternoon – just fine tuning it now.

  3. The thing I did like about Obama is that even through all that whiny bitch Browkaw-ness and crap, Obama seemed 100% stronger than that little weak ass McCain.

Uh, no offense Republicans. I just calls it as I sees it!

  4. Who the hell would dare “not care” for you? :hrmph:

ANYway – my post about the debates is already written – for Friday.

But I will say that I was annoyed with the format. I’m tired of hearing people bitch that the candidates haven’t “told them” anything, and then watch as they are limited to 90 second intervals.

“Yes, please tell me how you will bring about World Peace. You have 2 minutes. Go.”

Isn’t that what beauty pageants are for?

    Oh.. wait…

  5. My feed reader is all fucked too. I haven’t been under (+1000) in a month.

There are rules to the debate… which both of them agreed to before the debate. I did see Brokaw reign in Obama who seemed intent on not necessarily following the rules (colors people… colors)… and I also saw Brokaw grant him a “followup to a followup” that was against the rules… with McCain’s blessing. I don’t think Brokaw did anything wrong other than be a strong moderator… which is his modus operandi.

I also think you’re going to need more than just a cream for me my dear. :grins:

  6. How do you avoid discussing politics with Dawg? I can’t manage that with my father and he doesn’t live here

  7. I didn’t get to see the debate, but from what I understand, it shows a lot that Obama still came out strong even with the unfair treatment

  8. My impression was that Obama went over time more than McCain did, but I didn’t time it. Surely there’s a site somewhere that can verify it for us and tell us who should be President.

  9. Who are these people you’re talking about? :grins:

Obama looked far more presidential, my friend.

  10. My thoughts on Brokaw…

    he sucked!

He brought up the time limit only after Obama spoke and twice, that I saw, he didn’t let Obama respond after he let McCain respond.

    He’s a mush-mouthed douche!

  11. I don’t know who I’m going to vote for. Sometimes I think all 4 of them are nuts. I DO agree with Avitable on one thing: Obama always comes off more “polished” than McCain. But that doesn’t necessarily make him the better candidate. I just don’t know if I can vote for McCain with Sarah Palin as his VP. I really don’t think she can handle it. I’m so confused! Still! Oh well.

    J.

  12. I’m sorry. I had a comment, but I totally forgot what I was going to say when you told us you sleep with a Republican.

I’m aghast, but I suppose we all have our crosses to bear. ;-)

  13. Regardless of whether or not he favored one or the other, Brokaw was horrible last night. Generally, it was a total clusterfuck of a debate.

  14. Secondhand Vermont Pot Smoke is what likely forces you to vote Democrat.

I watched only 5 minutes of the debate and then found something much more enjoyable to do. But about Brokaw: Jeeze, he is going to cause a Botox shortage. He mug was smoother than a clown’s party balloon.

  15. I totally agree with you. I watched the entire debate and I was disgusted by McCain and annoyed by Brokaw. I think Obama handled himself beautifully, but McCain acted like an irritable old troll. And what was with McCain refusing to shake Obama’s hand after the debate??? And is it just me, or did McCain keep inching into view every time Obama was speaking and then wander as far away from Obama as possible when it was his turn to speak? That said, the debate was much less exciting than I was expecting it to be.

  16. Sybil, my mind was made up long ago too, but apparently there are still a few undecided people who intend to vote so I’m glad they’re getting the chance to make an informed decision.

Chris, you should have heard Dawg mumbling about how a cream was not going to work on him. :winks:

Hilly, stable tone and standing STILL and not calling names or belittling makes a candidate seem stronger in my eyes.

Avi, I watched the whole thing. Other people saw what I saw. This time I’m not just making shit up. :pfft:

Britt, *giggle* to the beauty pageant contest. I loooooved seeing the SNL clip AfteR seeing your comment.

Dawg, apparently our party opposition causes us to see a very different Tom Brokaw. And I won’t be using a cream to change you. Maybe a cream to make you feel good… Icy Hot? :winks:

Maman, I finally got SO sick of it that I made a Favorites folder and put my favorite blogs in there, then moved the others to other folders. Allllll better. Phew! And I keep an open mind when we discuss politics, after saying democratic statements that Dawg calls me out on. It’s actually a lot of fun!

Empanada, well, I’m biased so I won’t disagree with your statement. :grins:

Wah, I already know who should be president. I said so in my post. :pfft:

Finn, I can go the rest of my life without hearing someone say “my friend(s)”.

Sharon, I sure hope there is, otherwise I just changed my voting location to New York for no good reason!

BEE-bzzt, you are my new favorite. Chocolate chip cookie to you. (Apparently I need to find a cookie graphic now.)

BB, cat’s out of the bag! :laughs: :laughs: :laughs: (Yes, I did just say that.)

J, if McCain dies (which is much more likely than Obama dying) then Palin would be the president by default… Now what do you think?

Stef, true love knows no party lines.

Brandon, yes, bad in general. Brokaw should never be allowed to participate again. I’d rather have Queen Latifah.

Pat, I’m guessing there might be a small amount of truth to the pot comment. And, yah, he was looking smooth, just not speaking smoothly.

Misses M, and the “That One” comment, which I missed the first time! McCain was intentionally insulting to Obama many times.
