I now have a fourth child: A 20″ 2.66GHz Intel Core Duo iMac with 4GB memory, a 500GB hard drive*, and 8x double-layer SuperDrive. I also added the 3 year warranty, Microsoft Office 2008, and GUITAR HERO 3**!!!

I’ve been thinking about this for months now. I had the computer in my online shopping cart at 2:00am, after having put a computer in a cart a few times before, but this time I was very serious about the purchase, just wanted to sleep on it. I talked with Dawg about it earlier today, and he told me what I thought all along: I will be happiest if I buy a Mac, not a PC. I could have gotten a PC for MUCH cheaper, but after 6 years of specifically supporting Macs and therefore lugging one around with me every single day of my life for that 6 years I have become a Mac snob. I can’t switch to the PC for my daily use. I can borrow a PC, but it can’t be my main machine for play. I toyed with the idea of getting a MacBook or MacBook Pro, but the expense isn’t worth it to me. Dawg says I can borrow his laptop if I want to blog in bed, and practicing my sharing skills is a very good thing. Plus, when I get a job it’s very likely I’ll get a laptop from them to use, so… there ya go. Even if not, I can just get Parallels and load Windows onto the machine as needed. But I need a computer, and this is the very first computer I have ever purchased for myself. I’ve always had hand-me-downs or work computers for my daily use.

I am sooooo psyched, very happy, can’t wait for her to arrive!! :grins:





*I have a 500GB myBook external drive already, sooooo… I technically have 1TB of space — w00t!
**Yes, I already own Guitar Hero 3, but I’m smart and ordered it again, and now I have two guitars for the price of two copies of the same version of software (but only one in New York)! Now Dawg and I can play together, wheeeeeeeee!!!

  5. That sounds really really cool. I’ve been trying to get Hackintosh to work (running mac on a virtual or non-apple machine) so I can test and troubleshoot Time Machine on a network.

  10. Avi, I think it would hurt your heart more if I stopped blogging altogether because I got so effing pissed at the Windows 74 computer that I quit all computers.

    Tori, I expect to spend so much time in the living room that having a desktop really won’t be a problem… especially if Dawg shares like he says he will. :winks:

    Mikey, it’s been about that long that I’ve been throwing computers into carts… maybe a touch longer. I always threw a Mac into a cart, I should have known I’d end up buying one.

  12. Congratulations on your purchase! I think you will be very happy with it. I use my MacBook for my primary puter, but I use a 20″ iMac when I need more screen ‘real estate’ or when I want to mess with large files or photos. The screen is gorgeous, and yours will be even better. I think it was that screen that finally won my husband over to Macs in general.

  16. If you really want to you could buy Parallels or VM fusion and run Windows virtually. Or you could use boot camp as well.

    Jen, I’m all about the screen real estate, and really enjoyed using Break Boy’s iMac while I was staying there.

    Dragon, the new iMacs don’t really come in a lot of colors. I just got the regular one, without a color plate over it. If I did buy a color, I’d get both black and red, because the color plates just grab onto the front, so cheap!

  18. Silly Chicken, I mentioned Parallels in the post! I could also Bootcamp it, but why would I buy a Mac and keep it booted into Windows, except to be a jackass? Hehe.

  19. I am typing on my MacBookPro to say that the 20″iMac RAWKS!! I LOVE mine and I must say it makes even tedious work more fun.

    I know you’ll love it.

    Just be sure to stop and tell Dawg ‘hi’ when you are blogging in bed :grins:
