You know what I’m talking about… It’s that span of time during which you are promised a representative from a company will show up to your house to install, repair, remove, or troubleshoot something. You take time you don’t have off from work to sit at home and hope someone shows up during “the window”. If they do show up it’s almost always at the tail end of the window, or some uncomfortable amount of time past the end of the window, so you still spend a bunch of time being sure they wouldn’t show. If they don’t you pound your fist in the air and yell, “I told you so!” to no one in particular.
And even if we work in a job where we are one of The Window People, we all know more often than not we personally have wasted a lot of time waiting for people who never show up, juuuust like being stood up for a date or waiting for a phone call that never actually happens.
It is not good customer service. It should be banned. It’s a lose-lose.
This post was inspired by Jen. If you don’t read Jen then you don’t like space. If you don’t like space then … um, what’s wrong with you?
Space freaks me out.
Except there is also that awful Window thing when the Window is something like 8:00 AM to 10:00 AM. You take the morning off work, but then because you have the morning off, you think you can sleep until like 7:45 AM. Since it is the Window People who are coming, you KNOW they aren’t going to show up until 10:02 AM, so you jump in the shower at 7:58 AM. Then 8:01 AM rolls around, you’re all soaped up and shampooed, and the doorbell rings.
Um, hi. You don’t actually know me. I’ve been reading your blog for a long time, though, and apparently feel passionate enough about Window people to delurk.
Brooke -whoever that may be- just covered the scenario I was going to point out.
Also space contains a lot of things that are just wrong.
BEE-bzzt, … that’s so sad.
Brooke, excellent point. And sometimes they show up BEFORE the window, which is truly cruel.
Creature, did you just make Brooke feel unwelcome? I think you did. You’re on probation, Mister. Space contains everything, wrong and right. Why are you focusing on the “negative”?
I am not allowed to comment on this post for fear that my defense of The Window People and their families will come off as far, far too bitchy.
:shh:
Britt, I actually thought of Jared while I wrote this post, but I still think it’s bad customer service to offer the window. I think it would actually be good if you DID write a post in support of The Window People, because I’m not opposed to The Window People themselves, they are taking the brunt of a customer service “feature” that just doesn’t work. I give time estimates to my clients too, and it’s frustrating to me when I have to change my estimate once, let alone more than once.
Unwelcome ? But how ? I just said that she said what I was going to say.
I hate the window. If it is an early window (starting at 8 or 9 am), they will come at 8 am. If it is a late window (12 noon to 5pm), they would come at 6 pm. grrr.
