ModBlog results in overactive imagination

If you were to get a tattoo what would you get?

Discuss. I’ll reveal my thoughts in the comments.

I will not link ModBlog because I think you prefer your cookies inside your tummy and they’re hardcore about body modification over there, but for just the straight-up tattoos I get lost in staring at what people choose to adorn their body with.

If you already have tattoos I’d love to hear your stories about what you have and why you got it/them.

  1. If I could figure out where to get it and how big I wanted it I’d start a pet collection. I’d have Allie, Georgie, and Ripley done in black and grey portrait. Ripley would be the center around which the other kids were placed, and then Sam, Garfield, Jenny, Bear, Buford, Sioux, Cochise, Kionis, and Little Kitty would go around her. Or, maybe LK would get her very own spot. She was the kitty I had from age 11-30. Hmm.

If I couldn’t decide how to make all that happen I’d get a tiny Chinese symbol for love on the front of my hip and perhaps double-happiness on the other front hip. Or maybe they’d go on my back, right above my butt.

See? I dunno! This is how I know I’m not ready, if ever to get a tattoo!

  2. My next tattoo is gonna be some kind of triskele. Maybe something like this but with added stuff.

My first, and only, tattoo is of a bird of paradise with my family’s crest on my right lower leg. You can see a pic of it on the sidebar in my blog. I definitely wanted some sort of exotic bird and something to do with my father. The colors just worked out right with this one.

  3. I go around and around with this. I think I’d want a four leaf clover on my front right hip. But sometimes I want in on my lower back, or my shoulder blade. I’m way to indecisive for this.

  4. I drew my next (and first) tattoo a few years back. It’s a St-Michael holding a sword. I can’t find the actual drawing but it looks a little like this. It would be a half-sleeve. Probably on the left arm.

I already have plans for the rest of the sleeve, but I figured I need to find someone to do the upper part first.

  5. I got my first tattoo back in February and I absolutely love it and love talking about it.

I had wanted a tat for YEARS but never got one, mostly because the husband didn’t really approve. So after he and I split, in an act of rebellion and also to solidify my independence, I got my bee tattoo. Funny enough my husband was with me when I got it!

My bee tat is about two inches in diameter. My name means “honeybee” in Greek and I wanted something that truly represented myself. I absolutely do not regret it and I look at it every day and just smile.

Here’s a couple of links to the posts I wrote about it:

  6. i just had my third tattoo started last Saturday, I have to wait until august for the coloring. with this tattoo i wanted something girly and flowing, if you want to see it there is a picture of it on my blog, last Saturdays post.

on my calf I have the Chinese symbol for mother and directly above that I have three rather large swirly dragon flies with my children’s initials and year of birth.

My next tattoo is a viney flowery bit I drew last year. it will go up my ankle and across my foot. Hubs and I take turns getting tattoos, so the vine will have to wait until after his next tattoo :o (

    tattoos are fun!

  7. I have a forget-me-not flower on my toe that 7 of us friends got while living in Vegas. I also have my grandkids’ footprints (from their baby books), first names & dates of birth on my lower back.

I have a drawing of ‘bite me’ in Mandarin Chinese, but don’t know where I’d put it, so probably won’t. I’d like to get one in memory of my brother, but not sure what or where yet. /novel. :winks:

  8. I have a simple rose vine winding through a chain with a lock and a key on my ankle. The lock has a D on it and the key has a B, duh. I got that right after I got married so I was 35.

I have a beautiful…and I mean seriously fucking gorgeous tat of the painting The Love Of Souls by Deville( http://www.illusionsgallery.com/souls.html) on my lower back. I was gonna get it on my hip but then I thought, “FUCK! What if I get fat?” Seriously. It cost way too much to have a huge stretch mark running through it.

I got the colours touched up a few months ago and it looks just like new.

Oh, I got it when I was about 27. I’ve had the colours touched up once before ’cause they kind of fade over time. It took about 9 or 10 hours to complete.

  9. My first tattoo was a sun on my back basically because I just really wanted a tattoo. I didn’t get another one for about 8 years, and then I got a little devil on my foot because we were in Las Vegas and I was feeling like a little devil. Last year when we were in Hawaii I got 4 stars on my arm that are for me, Scott, my mom and dad to celebrate their 40th wedding anniversary. Scott and I are currently trying to figure out similar tattoos to get this year as we have been together for 10 years now.

  10. I would like to get the symbols representing both my girls names. Imelda’s would be a candle, Lillith’s a lyre. they would intersect and be surrounded by an oval, representing me. Not sure where to get it though… I don’t want anyplace too obvious, but then i want it someplace I can see it.

The sad part is that I won’t get it because I don’t want to do it alone. and no one will go with me.

  11. I have 7 tattoos, with at least 3 more left to go. They all represent something in a point of my life.

    1. Drama masks on right ankle – I was a theatre major in college

    2. a sun on right arm high, at my shoulder – to represent the Sunshine State, which I feel is “home”

    3. a heart with barbed wire around it on the opposite arm in the same place – which I got to represent that I would never let my heart be broken. Ironically 4 months after I got it, I met Misk

    4. a camouflage smiley face and the words “Ranger Buddies” on my left ankle opposite my masks – a bunch of my friends and I from the Air Force got it. I still have to add the dates of my service.

    5. on my back over my left shoulder blade a dove flying out of a pair of open hands and a ribbon that says “Mae” – in memory of my daughter who died at birth.

    6. the Japanese symbol for “friend” on my right leg above the masks. It was “passed” to me from a friend. I have to get 2 friends to also get one, “passing it on”

    7. a scorpion on my left breast over my heart – Misk is a Scorpio. He is the love of my life. I think that explains it all.

I still need to get tattoos to represent Emily & Kaitlyn (my girls) and one that represents my religion. Of course, I usually get one about every 2 years, so I am due for one at Christmastime….heh

and those are my tattoos! :)

  12. I’d want a knitting tattoo. And one of those celtic cats. And a Dr Seuss tattoo (Lorax? Or just the Cat in the Hat’s hat?).

I don’t want several tattoos, though, so it’d have to all be in one genius, not-too-large motif. And I’d have to design it. And that’s not happening.

So while I’m not designing my tattoo, I’ll go get something else pierced. That way, if I change my mind, I can just take it out and have nothing but a small pink dot or two to show for it.

  13. I have 4 tattoos….a four leaf clover on my left boob cause im irish….thumper on my hip/stomach (not with stretch marks from having two kids..well worth it) because i love bunnies…..a daisy going through a heart on my ankle because i love daisies and it looked cool….and a daisy with vines on my lower back/above butt….because again, i love daisies. I want another one but i don’t know what and where.

  14. I have a few myself… not to copy CissaFirehart, but…

    1. Drama masks on right ankle – I was a theatre major in college

    2. Mermaid on my lower back… holding the world

    3. my astrological sign on my wrist in white

    5. a flag on the back of my neck just below my hairline, half/half the two countries of my heritage

    6. my only regret… a symbol on my chest of the first guy I thought I loved…

  15. Man, I totally forgot about this, but I can show you here because you’ve got the right smilies.

At one point, I wanted to get :grins: tattooed on the pad of my middle finger. :grins: is my most favorite emoticon in the whole wide world and the history thereof, so I figured that if I were mad enough to flip someone off, it would make me a little happier to see that guy. Plus, it’s small. And the ink would probably fade quickly because of the way skin on your hand heals, so it wouldn’t be permanent.

I just need to find a tat artist with fine, fine needles that can replicate :grins: exactly. Close will NOT cut it when it comes to :grins:

  16. I really like tattoos, not only for the artwork itself (some are beautiful) but also for the story they tell (on some people). I currently have four, each representative of something at some point in my life:

1st. Small purple morning glory, left shoulder
2nd. Two stone dragons, entwined, lower back
3rd. Hummingbird with floral vine, left shoulder
4th. Fairy holding a lantern, drifting in a leaf boat on the water, right arm

I want a few more and, at some point, I would like to connect them all with a trail of leafy vines in various seasonal stages.

  17. After being at the grocery store and seeing a woman who had her son’s footprint tattooed on her shoulder I now know what I want: Paws. Paws. It all makes sense. Paws.

  18. I would get a cover of a Harlequin romance novel if for nothing else but to fuck with people’s minds.

  19. Paws is a great idea for you, Poppy!
I’ve always wanted to get a small elephant, like the full on, Indian elephant all fancied up in costume.
    I just like elephants.
But I could never decide where to get it, plus, I truly think it might look like shiite in a few years. Either way, if I ever do (doubtful), it’s be on my hip or something, so it could always be covered with a bikini even on the beach. Only special people could see it.

  20. Paws on your shoulder!!! That is an awesome idea! You got it Poppy, paws is all you!

  21. I have one tattoo: 3 small sunflowers just above the crack on my lower back. I got them as a 40th birthday present from someone I loved very much (and will always love). It was kind of rebellion against middle age. And since I am an elementary teacher, it is where it is because it is private.

  22. When my son decided to marry the woman of his dreams, she and I decided that we should have some sort of bonding experience. She chose getting tats on one of our toes. I went first, since she is somewhat of a wussy. I got a tiny red heart with a lightning bolt through it. Why did I choose it? It was the smallest one that they had. She called my son to get his opinion of a tattoo for her. He said that he would pay off her Macy’s bill if she would NOT get a tattoo. Little S.O.B. Wait a minute, that makes me a bitch. Well if the tattoo fits your toe, wear it.

  23. I don’t think I’ll ever get a tattoo because I am way too much of a chicken. Not for the pain, but for the permanence of it.

If I were not such a chicken, I would probably get a small Native American style turtle design.
