Commentous occasion

By mandate of The Cactus, who has asked me specifically (among other of his “favoritest people ever”) to continue the tradition by spreading the word on my blog, I relay to you that today is annual Delurking Day.

Delurker Day 2008

Lurkers of the world delurk! (That means leave a comment.)

I am using Netflix again after a few months without it. Any recommendations for movies to rent? It’s very likely I’ve seen anything you’re going to recommend since I see so many movies, so please try hard. (I’m not kidding.)

Last night I learned that Allie loves tomatoes. She ate an entire round tomato slice in one bite. To the tomatoes of the world: Live in fear.

Also last night I watched The Queen which is about how the queen of England and Tony Blair handled the death of Princess Diana. I began to cry when the historical footage of Diana’s coffin being transported from St. James’s Palace to Westminster Abbey was shown, and continued crying through her brother’s eulogy. Tony Blair may side too often with GWB, but he did a very good thing for England’s people and for those of us who hold Diana dear to our hearts when he convinced the queen to publicly mourn Diana’s death. I remember the day Diana died. I remember where I was. I remember how upset I was. I remember calling my recently-broken-up-with boyfriend at the time, crying. I remember him telling me it wasn’t a big deal. I remember hating him for blowing me off. I have never quite gotten over her death. I couldn’t tell you why.

In other news, this photo from flickr via Slashfood makes me giggle:

Sad little meat pad…

That’s a sad little meat pad. (This makes no sense to anyone in the world but me and my former officemate from my last job. We’ll call it an inside joke.)

  1. *De-Lurking* I am here. */De-Lurking*

    P.S.

The meat patty is sad because it is a Monday and he is therefore Mystery Meat… and he just wants to know where he comes from before he ends up in my tummy.

    Get in my tummy!!!

  2. Dawg, sweetie, um… it’s Tuesday. :grins: Do you need a calendar? I can send you a kitty cat calendar with fluffy kittens all over it! (No one ever said I wasn’t a smartass.) But I do have my plastic fork ready to stab that mystery meat right through its eyeball. :grins:

  3. I thought you had like oodles of calendars in your office? Did anyone buy you a calendar for 2008? Did I spell “oodles” right?

I remember where I was the day Diana died, too. It made me really sad as well, but I felt stupid for being sad that someone I’d never met had died. Go figure.

I recommend the film “Equilibrium” if you haven’t already seen it. DH and I borrowed it in HD from one of his co-workers and in addition to having Christian Bale, one of my favorite actors, play the main role, the story is pretty cool as well. :grins:

  4. Have you seen “Kicking and Screaming”? Not the recent silly little soccer movie with Will Ferrell, but a Reality Bites-like film from the mid-90s by the same name.

I loved that movie, and wondered why the heck I didn’t know about it ten years ago, when I would have totally related to it more.

  5. I don’t really lurk much, but Hi Poppy! Someday, I will dig out the picture of me and les filles on the bridge over the tunnel where Diana died.. there is a beautiful statue that looks like the flame for the Statue of Liberty… and people write notes on the bridge in many languages lamenting her death… quite moving… and completely genuine.

  6. B, the year changed. I am currently calendarless. Last year? 10 calendars. This year? Zero. Can’t win. Ohh, and I saw Equilibrium already. Of course. :grins:

Stef, ahhh, with Eric Stoltz! How did you know I PPH him?! I have added it to the queue.

NPW, you didn’t miss it! Here it is! :smiles:

ACW, you comment sometimes. So, not a full lurker.

IT’S THE CACTUS!!!! Thanks for stopping by! HDD!!!!!

Maman, bonjour! I look forward to the picture.

  7. I remember where I was when I heard the news of Diana and I doubt I’ll ever forget that moment but, while I was indeed stunned, I was not as broken up about it as some.

The Queen was a pretty good movie and I thought she (Helen Mirren) did a very good job.

  8. PPH? I am not up on my lingo, apparently, and Google is no help. (Unless of course you meant you primary pulmonary hypertension him!) ;-)

  9. Sour, she did a fantastic job. I enjoyed the “Shooo!” scene with the 14-point buck. Too bad we found out he was a 14-point buck. :frown:

Stef, PPH = pink puffy heart = love. :smiles:

  10. delurking here! Love the TV dinner.

I remember getting up that morning, grabbing the newspaper and seeing the headline. For some reason, I kept thinking she had died in an airplane crash. It took quite a while for it to sink in that it was an automobile.
