If you knew how often people didn’t think about you, you’d feel even less significant than you already do.

I am sad to think I do not inspire even the closest around me.

If I do… I don’t know about it.

Ask yourself: How does someone close to you inspire you?

And then: Tell them.

(As in, with your mouth. To their face. Good luck!)

Girl, your…. oh wait, I think you’re slightly older than I. Woman, your writing alone has inspired plenty !

  2. Bobbird3131 Says:

You have inspired me to start a blog and not worry so much about what people might think about it.

I tell people about positive effects they have on me, even when it’s people who have a hard time ‘taking compliments’. I figure, heck, they can suck it up, I have no intention of us both leaving our mortal coils behind without your getting to know or realize this good thing your life did for someone. A moment of awkwardness = nothin’, in the grand scheme of things. But that’s one reason people might feel hesitant to speak up. They maybe don’t want to risk awkwardness or discomfort. YOU have inspired me to, among other things, go buy bubble stuff and blow bubbles. That was fun :)

Poppy, I wonder if you can have your web peep tweak the comments box so that it can scroll. I had this missive of a comment to leave on a post you wrote the other day, but never posted it because I couldn’t see/proofread most of it and couldn’t copy/paste it onto a different space (that part that wasn’t showing wouldn’t copy).

    :-)

I absolutely love that you are you no matter what – and that you are always just cute as HELL, being yourself! I love that you are pretty open, really, about how you’re feeling -and believe me, that inspires me to try and be the same. (I give up on being as cute as you, though!)

  6. Just Me Says:

You inspire me and I don’t even know you (only through your blog). I love reading your words.

  7. Dave2 Says:

You just inspired me to comment! :-)

  8. metalmom Says:

You inspire me to giggle much, much more.

btw-I just told Hubs that he inspires me too and he asked “What’s that supposed to mean? Are you okay?” Men!

  9. Finn Says:

You inspire me to smile and to see things differently. xo

Poppy, I’m tempted to hop on a plane right this second. That way we could eat bagels, stun people with our beauty, flash gang signs on the train and then, I could look you in the eyes (sounds really creepy though, eh?) and tell you how much you mean to me and that you are very, very, very inspirational.

Without your words of wisdom and support, well, I’d be a lot less of a happy Sheila. You matter Poppy.

    xoxo

MM, that’s pretty much how Dawg reacted, except more defensively. I had to explain “I didn’t say you encourage me to be those things, I said INSPIRE.” I’m not sure we walked away from that conversation with an effectively communicated intention. Surprised the shit out of me to be so misunderstood, actually.

  12. Lynda Says:

Your title is what got me more than the post, because I don’t think anyone really thinks about me. I’ve always felt that way.

In fact, I am often surprised when certain people do remember me.

So, I guess I inspire no one.

  13. NYCWD Says:

You inspire me to eat Chinese food.

    And take cold medicine.

And share my pillow with kitties.

  14. Bro Says:

You inspire me to read blogs (which I have NEVER done) and since I am reading yours it makes me think about you often.

    So there. Neener neener.

  15. Kristen Says:

Sweet Poppy, you’ve inspired me to love myself for who I am more often than I do, and to take a few more chances than I already would. You’re not the only person who inspires me, though, so with this post you’ve inspired me to go tell people who inspire me that I’m inspired by them. That’s a lot of inspiration.

  16. Faiqa Says:

You’re right. People deserve to know that about themselves.

  17. Princess of the Universe Says:

You inspired me to write a post: http://winnipegprincess.blogspot.com/2009/03/except-it-really-is-all-about-me.html

  18. maman Says:

Um. I am all over the board on that thought… See, it seems that I am completely ignored by my family…

Yet, older cousins of mine (remember that I am 43) just told on me to my mom about stuff I wrote on my blog.

But then, I am pretty fucked up.

  19. whall Says:

I just told some people how they inspire me.

Never did I see a better smile.

  20. Poppy Cede Says:

Today I surprised my mom and B with text messages telling them how I inspire them. I know I said to tell them with your mouth, but… then they get to keep what I said and that’s how we communicate best anyway.
