Let’s discuss

One of the guys at work who half the time bullshits me and half the time is dead serious (all in the same tone) told everyone that one of his buddies that works for Glock said that sales have tripled since the day that Barack Obama was elected our 44th president. I’d like to present some theories on why and have you tell me which is the truth:

1. People see the end of times because the icon of a mature-in-age white man will no longer be our leader.
2. We’re sticking it to Palin who thought she’d win on cuteness and her support for every citizen arming him or herself to the hilt.
3. We all received a memo that one way to stimulate the economy was to buy guns so we did. (Mine must be trapped in my spam filter.)
4. People fear rioting.
5. It’s a fucking coincidence.
6. It’s not even true.

So, what do you think? I couldn’t come to a logical conclusion on that without researching, but since November 4 was only 8 days ago I’m not sure how much there is to research. How can they even tell that sales have tripled in 8 days? They must have a great system for tracking their sales and great people to analyze the data.

On completely different notes:

HAPPY 40TH BIRTHDAY, BIG BROTHER! Wish I was there, but glad I got to see you for the 110th party this summer.

There is a new Cereal Wednesday this week filmed during Neverwas weekend with special guest Mikey/LeSombre! w00t!

PS: For those of you who didn’t see it in the feed reader, the other day when I yanked my post (not because Adam or Jess told me to, but because I felt like I shouldn’t post it until Adam did) I had linked to this picture minus the border and the text I wrote in that post was:

Christine/PocketCT brings Poppy’s Princess Leia’s demise, perhaps as justice for that stormtrooper she killed with her bare hands? [Cropped to fit the blog.]

Jess took this picture at Neverwas. She is a friend of Adam, and because I’m not sure how “out there” she is with her identity I won’t say more than that or link you to her photos. She is a mad amazing, mad cool person. It’s funny when you don’t realize what incredible people are just around the corner, hidden in shadows… or behind the camera.”

Rest of the party set is at flickr.

Of course it’s #6. Since when are gun sales satistics measured in 4-day intervalls ? Besides, it sounds exactly like made up-urban legend bs: “A friend” as the source (rather than anything you could check), a big name attached, relation to a big topic of the daily buzz and absolutely no specifics.

    Also, porridge is good stuff.

  2. PocketCT Says:

I’m thinking that just like 72.7% of statistics cited, the guy is making them up on the spot.

That photo is evidence that I forgot the big rule –

    Don’t gore the Poppy!

  3. NYCWD Says:

Actually, it is quite possibly true. I’m not sure about tripling but gun sales are definitely up. Why? Democrats have this idea that citizens should not be allowed to bear arms and have a history of gun control bans. The 1994 Clinton gun ban on assault style weapons expired in 2004, but it is believed Obama will re-instate it.

Think of it this way… if guns were allowed, Princess Poppy wouldn’t have needed to kill a stormtrooper with her bare hands.

  4. Dutchess of Kickball Says:

I’m pretty sure he is pulling your leg.

  5. Willie G Says:

What DAWG said!! Obama has talked about stricter gun control laws (assault weapons, and limiting concealed weapons permits). Could result in a rush to arm up before any new legislation could be instated.

  6. maman Says:

I have read that gun sales are up. the news people were saying that they assume it is because it is believed that Obama will prevent you from having a private arsenal.

I am hoping that my crazy ass neighbors have not stocked up…sigh.

  7. Finn Says:

It could be true for the reason Dawg said. Then again it could be bullshit. Or it might be true for another reason entirely.

    :geek:

  8. stefanie Says:

I read something similar yesterday. I don’t know if the figure was that sales had tripled, specifically, but the article did say that gun sales are way up.

The reason, of course, is that people are insane and they think that A) they need a guy and B) Obama won’t let them buy one once he’s in office. Neither is true for most people, of course.

Weirdness… The Poppy speaks and the Chicago Tribune publishes! http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/nationworld/chi-guns_wednov12,0,4425738.story

  10. NYCWD Says:

    Heh.

    Thank you maman.

    I was right.

    Scooby Snack now?

  11. Solanaceae Says:

Dawg is correct, ABC Evening News covered the story, as did our local (and only) network affiliate. Guns sales are up, most notably in Texas where a shop claims to have had a $180,000.00 day. People fear the new regime banning guns so they are loading up. What kind of struck me though is it wasn’t hunting rifles I was seeing in the hands of shoppers in the local footage however they were talking about guns for hunting.

  12. Sheila (Charm School Reject) Says:

In Indiana (at least, Northwest Indiana, not sure about the rest of the state) they are issuing a “Life Time License” that, supposedly, wouldn’t be negated by any new gun laws enacted when Obama enters office. I’m not sure how it is supposed to work but I definitely believe that gun sales are up.

  13. noraisins Says:

Doesn’t hunting season start this month?

  14. Creature SH Says:

Wabbit season or dwuck season ?

  15. Sybil Law Says:

Yeah – I’d also heard that gun sales were up – not sure of the specifics, though.
    Flickr pictures are awesome!

  16. Sarah Says:

My store is saying that too. My store manager told me that since Obama won our sales are really great.

I think that it’s November and she’s forgetting that Christmas is not that far away and people are starting their shopping earlier because they have less money to wait last minute.

And we just got a bunch of new winter merchandise.

  17. Sharon - Mom Generations Says:

And #7: Since so many people are joining the ranks of the unemployed, maybe a Glock for this new Lifestyle of “leisure time” is in order.

I mean, what expresses a commitment to uncompromising leisure time quality more than a Glock and related shooting accessories?

  18. Dan Says:

Let’s just hope we can get this economy back on track. My 401(k) is looking sad. Glad retirement is a ways off…

  19. Turnbaby Says:

Dawg had a good point—-or the guy at Glock wanted you think he did.

You are an ADORABLE storm trooper killer;-)

  20. Avitable Says:

    He’s totally bullshitting you.

  21. Chicka Nuts Says:

My friend Manya (who was McCain voter, and I still love her anyway), went out and got a rifle because she thinks Obama’s gonna take all our guns away. Whatever. I think she’s full o’ crap. Obama can’t do anything without the support of Congress and I just don’t see that happening any time soon. Either way…whatever. My boobs are lethal weapons. Who needs guns? *snerk*

  22. delmer Says:

I was thinking coincidence though I liked the reasoning offered by the third commenter even before I notice who it was.

  23. BelchSpeak Says:

Anyone wanna buy a used Glock? I’m getting a Mac-10.

  24. Twinkie's Brainier Sister Says:

I love how glock rhymes with.. :grins:

  25. Jen Says:

My Associate Program Manager’s husband owns a gun shop and his sales have been through the roof for the reason Dawg said. Whether it will happen or not, many people are afraid that they will not be allowed to buy guns or that they will be taxed to the point that they cannot afford them under Obama’s presidency. The gun sales started increasing even before the election based on speculation that Obama would win.
