Tug, I left out a lot of details, I was feeling kind of… storytelly when I wrote it and sometimes it makes a better story to leave out important details such as they guy in the teal car was outside his car leaning over the guy in the road, on his cell phone. And that when I came back out of the pharmacy to wait for my order the traffic was already being controlled, but the line was just so far backed up that the cars near where I was couldn’t see what the hold-up was, and most of the people honking their horns were honking because they stupidly drove into intersections and blocked them off and were honking to make other people move so they weren’t blocking the intersections anymore.

Twinkie, it makes me very glad that I am choosing to pay COBRA insurance in between jobs, because you really never know when you’re going to need it.

NAT, we come from the same background, where we always stop to help everyone because not that many people are in distress and response time is slooooow. Here there is a process for everything, it’s all carefully planned out how situations are handled, and me stopping my little car at that intersection to help someone who had others helping him would have blocked off the only access to that street and the street perpendicular. In that situation I didn’t see blood and I saw someone else handling it so I knew it was better for me to move on. If it was a cat or a dog, though… I would have gotten out and helped it.

Perspective!

It’s a wonderful thing, though sometimes it gets the ‘there are children who in Ethiopia who would blah blah’ treatment and I tune out. I mean, aren’t we the center of the known universe?? shouldn’t be be all about us?

Then you actually ’see’ and experience something that snaps you out of it.

I don’t know about you, but I’ve always struggled with the ‘how much should I do’ when you see accidents or people who need help, or someone needs to take in the foster kitty or….I don’t know, a million things. My natural inclination is to help everything, but then what about the impact to yourself?

Hmmm. This post didn’t go where I expected it to. gah!

On a lighter note – at least you got a coke :)
