Dawg came to visit me Thursday night even though he never actually admitted he was coming to see me. (I love surprises, which I’m guessing is why he did that. He kept trying to tell me he was having conversations with Squishy Dawg even though I heard car and road sounds… mmmmhmm.)
We went to sleep after a little conversation of our own.
I woke up and it was my birthday.
I dragged Dawg to lunch at my favorite Chinese restaurant.
I dragged Dawg to the waterfront to walk around and then drink beverages to rehydrate us.
I dragged Dawg to the tallest free-standing filing cabinet art in the entire world.
I dragged Dawg to my storage unit to show him all the stuff I’ll eventually be bringing with me. (He did not freak out. He’s weird.)
I dragged Dawg to the Lake Champlain Chocolates factory to make him buy me chocolates. (heeheeheeehheeenheheeeeeheeee num)
I kindly brought him home where boxes were waiting outside my door.
Dawg dragged the presents inside.
I opened the presents.
I love my presents. … Oh, hmm, you wanted to know what they ARE? Think Keurig. I’ve wanted one of those damn things for years. Dawg had no idea, and yet he got me one anyway. He reads my mind. He also got me extra coffee singles and a book of coffee recipes and the movie This is Spinal Tap.
I primed my Keurig then we had a coffee.
My mom called to wish me a happy birthday. Apparently I forgot to mention to her that I haven’t moved yet. Oopsie.
Dawg and I had a conversation with Squishy Dawg.
Dawg and I went to see a pencil disappear. I liked that trick very much. I liked Heath Ledger’s character waaaaaaay too much, and am starting to wonder if I am a psychopath. We had popcorn, 44 oz sodas (we each had one), and candy.
I checked my voicemail after the movie and heard my stepdad singing to me.
bleep.
Dawg and I discussed the movie on the way home and it has now been confirmed for the millionth time that Dawg leads a very exciting life.
We got home to find the cats had not cleaned up after my tornadoing of the apartment with the gift wrap and boxes and packing materials.
I couldn’t stand the fuzz on my teeth from all the candy so I brushed my teeth.
I wrote this recap.
Here we are.
Thanks to all who emailed me, sent me cards, wrote on my Facebook wall, and made posts about me. Also, thanks to some guy who sent me dinosaur forks and spoons.
Um, in case anyone left on the planet didn’t know, my birthday was today. I’m 21, for the 14th year in a row. (Use your fingers to count and you’ll realize that’s correct.)

I got dragged alot today didn’t I?
Now tomorrow once I go through the car more thoroughly… hopefully I will find your card!!!
(I am so disorganized this trip as my lack of duffel bag proves
)
Happy 21st! Hopefully it was better than mine, which was spent throwing up tequila in vegas
Wow so old and yet still so witty. See goes to prove the sense of humor is not the first thing to go. Or maybe it’s the memory is the first to go? I can’t remember.
;-)
Happy Birthday.
Yay! Happy birfday, Poppy!
I can’t see you having to drag Dawg anywhere.
Glad you had an awesome birthday!
Happy 21st birthday!! The 21st is always the best one, isn’t it? :)
I did have a beer for you. And then some for me!
The Keurig is a kick-ass gift! (but frankly, I’m all about the conversations)
Happy belated B-day!
I’m using a lot of exclamation marks!
Did you like them? :D
Happy birthday!
doh! i missed the birthday! happy birthday!
And Many More!
Crap, I dropped the ball. I’m glad your birthday went to 11. :D
Gah. I’m one of the ones on the planet who somehow did forget it was your birthday. Sorry. Happy belated birthday! Glad it was a good one.
Happy Birthday, darling.
Sounds like you had the day you deserved… or at least something reasonably close !
I hope you got my email!
And that sounds like a lovely, lovely birthday!
Woohoo!
Happy belated Birthday! I am sorry I didn’t write to you or about you yesterday….it’s been a long weekend, and it’s only Saturday….
I am glad you had such a great day!
Happy happy birthday, from Indiana to you!
J.
There’s nothing like a surprise conversation to start a birthday off right.
Dawg, hopefully it’s on top of the TV because I love your cards. My birthday was awesome, thank you for being there with me and agreeing to “wing it”.
Empanada, there was absolutely no alcohol on my birthday. Didn’t need it.
Thanks for the wishes!
Foggy, you fun-y. I’m a witty kitty.
Vaaaahid, thank you!!!!!!!!
Britt, you’re right, he came along willingly, but I did drive. Otherwise I wouldn’t have felt comfortable doing all those things because I would have felt guilty making him drive all over when he doesn’t know his way around.
Robin, I am so old I can’t remember my real 21st. HOW SAD. Thanks for the wishes!!!
Mikey — King of Exclamations, thanks for having that beer for me! And… heh, I’m about the conversation too. The ones that start out with “hi!” and the ones that are really just chats about everything and anything. Dawg is a great talker in every sense of the word.
Avi, of course I did! But we haven’t eaten a meal at my apartment since Dawg showed up with the box so we haven’t used them yet. We will very soon. (Thanks for sending Dawg his own set so we don’t have to fight over them. I knew you always liked him better.)
Yoshi, my birthday spans many days, you’re just in time for the middle of the celebration.
Maman, I sure hope so! Thank you!
K, don’t be ridiculous. I don’t even remember your birthday off the top of my head, and here you are within an acceptable grace period after. Who’s the better friend? (You, duh.)
Stef, see my comment to Kristen. Really, I suck at remembering people’s birthdays.
Dragon, thank you!
Creature, yes, it was a fantastic day.
Bad Poppy. Yes, Sybil, I totally got your email! And just responded. Oooopsie.
Cissa, thank you! No sorries necessary, sweetie!
J, thank you!
Turn, hehehe. I love the surprise conversations… Got another one today. Dawg is such a great talker. (Ok, I know I already said that to Mikey, but … the guy is fascinating, can’t help but gush about him!
)
We “winged” it? I thought this was all meticulously planned out… especially the “Filing Cabinet In The Sky” part!
Happy birthday, Poppy! Sorry I’m late. :)
