So, I’ve alluded to it a bit here in comments and then in a post somewhere, I think, but I’ve developed an actual lactose intolerance.
Me. The person who eats dairy for breakfast, lunch, dinner, snacks, and elevensies.
This makes me very sad because it’s getting worse and worse so I really need to make conscious efforts not to eat dairy. Sure, I sneak some in here and there (read: every freaking day) but I can no longer just sit down with a block of cheddar and eat the whole thing.
Karl assures me that this product called Lactagen will actually restore me to full lactose tolerance if I’m willing to give it the old college try.
I’m considering it. But I’m wondering if I might not actually remain healthier without so much dairy in my life, so I’m hesitant to try it. Fence sitting on this issue. Do I get the memorial tattoo…
…which would be really awesome, or do I just “fix” myself by letting my micro-flora be reconditioned?

I don’t know babe… life without cheese, ice cream, butter, milk with your cookies…
It’s not really worth living is it?
I’m pretty sure I’m lactose intolerant, based on the fact that every trip I’ve made to Cold Stone Creamery has been followed by a trip to Cold Porcelain Toilet.
But I’m also a big, big fan of rice milk and tofuti ice cream, so it all kind of works out.
I am lactose intolerant. I have to watch a little but it’s not bad and I totally agree with Finn.
Recondition!
Nooo! Oh, I am sad for you, Poppy. You like tofu, though, so maybe you’ll like soy cheese?? Regardless, I vote recondition. Good luck.
I’m voting for recondition. You can’t stop eating cheese!
I would like to recondition as well, but balked at the price tag. I take acidophilus and it seems to help….
Of course I’ve already got permanent cottage cheese on my thighs, so I’d probably opt to not have it immortalized in a tatt. *snerk*
I’m telling you, Lactagen works miracles. I told you about it in Philly…my good friend Darrel was severely lactose intolerant for decades. Tried Lactagen for 60 days and the stuff really works. The best thing is you don’t have to take it again. A 60-day treatment is all that’s needed.
I couldn’t live without dairy. I don’t eat a ton of it, but I do want to be able to eat that which I do eat without worrying about the consequences.
Dairy bothers you at elevenses?? What about second breakfast and high tea??
No need to give up dairy - how can you give up creamy, decadent ice cream? there’s Lactaid. When i can’t have Lactaid Milk (real milk - yum), i’ll use the dietary supplements. I read more about Lactagen…can’t say i’m convinced about the science behind it. My doc told me that once you’re lactose intolerant (which becomes more likely as we get older and is the case most African Americans and Hispanics) - the ensyme to break down lactose is gone for good.
good luck with that
That’s actually a really interesting video.
Recondition!!!
I love the dairy.
What, if we may ask, is making you think of intolerance (or allergic reaction, or whatever)?
I’ve been getting these itchy bumps on my feet that definitely come FROM WITHIN (ie, not a rash, or mites or a bite) that itch like crazy and MUST BE scratched, and it ends up breaking the skin.
I suspect food allergy, but I’m too scared to actually find out that it’s dairy or cheese or hamburger meat. I did see the dr, who said “no way” to food allergy, gave me cream that doesn’t help, and took my money. I call foul.
Ooh, wait. Dave2 is ALSO experiencing allergic reactions to stuff.
My wife has complained of recent skin-based allergic reactions.
I’m hearing of it everywhere.
Maybe we’re being targeted somehow by a man-made or man-introduced pathogen?
Everyone, thank you for your valued opinion about my future in dairy.
Wah, if I eat any lactose-included food I have a gastrointestinal reaction of varying degree. If I eat lactose-free dairy then it’s business as usual. So, I guess it’s really just the lactose part that I don’t handle so well.
No rashes, no swelling of the tongue (but my belly swells), just good, old fashioned indigestion.
whall, to add to your “everywhere”, I found a bunch of non-itchy, red bumps on the right-front of my torso after pool the other night. They haven’t completely disappeared yet, and it seems odd that they’re only on the right side. Also, touching the skin there it seems like there are more little bumps than are visible. Odd.
