Oh, I’m funny. Dying to know? Benjamin Barker? Har. Yah, ok.
Two strikes against: CGI in the opening sequence and Sascha B. Cohen using a fucking annoying Italiano voice. But then (and I’m giving something completely away) he switches to an English accent and he’s on my not-shit list.
The film is amazingly bloody and disgusting and vile and wonderful. Sweeney Todd (Johnny Depp) and Mrs. Lovett (Helena Bonham Carter) could not have been better cast. Alan Rickman was properly malfeasant. The story remains extremely cruel to the very end. Dark, dark, dark just like it should be.
Film rating: B+ (CGI and Sascha really knocked it.)
Go see it? Yup. But if you don’t know by now that it’s a musical then … well, I can’t help you. (Yah, I’m talkin’ to YOU, kiddos in the theater with me.)

I will deal with the singing — and let it be known I do not approve of such nonsense — because Johnny Depp + Tim Burton + fountains of blood = holiday cheer. Also, Sascha Baron Cohen adds to the joy for me, distracting accent or no.

YAY! I am excited to see it. I might actually go out into the theaters for it, too.
Last movie I saw was Shrek 3rd with my daughter! (Obviously I am not huge on theaters.)

The opening credits were online last week, and I thought they looked pretty good.

I had no idea Sacha Cohen was involved. And fountains of blood? Goes without saying that Johnny Depp… mmm. So thank you for the review. I’ll go see it in Times Square when I get back from Christmas travels.

Aaron, when I am in your neck of the woods next weekend I’ll hunt you down and make you go see this with me so I can boo at you for liking Sascha.
Sybil, yes please. Go to see.
Avi, can you handle musicals? If so, then go see.
Nina, um…annoying guy… Ali G and …uhhhhhmmmm… Borat. Glad you’ll go see it, because the big screen is where it deserves to be seen.

Yeah, I like many musicals, and nothing could keep me away from this movie. I’m very excited to see it!

Awww, yay! I had no idea!
I hope you enjoy it! If I were in FL right now I’d go with you, it was pretty damn good. That B+ I gave it was not deserved, I was grading harshly for that damn CGI sequence. Had a conversation with a stranger after the movie about it and it annoyed both of us so I was a bit spiteful about it. It’s only like 5 seconds of the entire movie.

Like I said, I’ve already seen the opening credits, with the CG, and had no problem with it, so if that’s one of your two major complaints, I should definitely enjoy this movie.

Yup, that’s one of the only CGI-noticeable scenes so you’ll like it.
