I had every intention of posting earlier in the day, but the day just slipped out from under my fingers.
I didn’t feel well this morning so I stayed home and basically did absolutely nothing productive outside the e-world aside from feed the girls and do laundry. Very exciting! And it’s suddenly past time to feed the girls again so I’m gonna go do that. Since I have nothing interesting to post about me, allow me to post something interesting about someone else:
Putin dissolves government
MOSCOW - President Vladimir Putin on Wednesday replaced his long-serving prime minister with an obscure Cabinet official — a surprise move that could put him in the running to succeed Putin in next year’s presidential election.
The nomination of Viktor Zubkov, who currently oversees the government’s fight against money laundering, appeared to have caught much of the Russian political elite off-guard.
Putin had been expected to announce in December whom he would back to run for president next year — and Russia’s two first deputy prime ministers — former Defense Minister Sergei Ivanov and gas giant Gazprom board chairman Dmitry Medvedev — were widely considered to be the leading contenders. I’m more afraid of the Russians now. When I was old enough to understand the Cold War, Reagan was already making amends in a way that made me think of my grandpa, so I didn’t think there was such a threat.
Now that the Iron Curtain has rusted (such poetry!), and we have free access to what’s actually been happening over there (like, oh, poisoned spies and such!), I’m pretty convinced that there’s an even Colder War going on.
K, what’s our age difference? In ‘82 I was 7 and 8. That’s the year my anxiety attacks started. I was consumed by the thought of the Russians performing a nuclear attack on us, and consumed with the unknowns of death. I was a super introspective child who really could have used a break but was instead told to breathe into a paper bag.
I actually got curious about the new Russian Federation and looked into their constitution. Its quite a document, and I have no idea how they are going to make everything work that they have laid out.
In their constitution, every citizen is entitled to a house. Crazy! The taxes of this country must be outrageous.

Pat, maybe they mean a Barbie Dream House. I’m not going to bother to read the document (my eyes will most certainly glaze over) but I’m quite confident it does not say *anywhere* that he can do that.
Poppy, I was 9 in 1982. That would be the year that someone accidentally let me watch that HBO documentary on Nostradamus about the end of the world. Shortly after that I decided that I’d be a nun and would go to hell if I listened to rock music. I also developed a couple of weird OCD tics and I don’t think I took a single deep, cleansing breath until I was 16 and in Germany.
I never felt that scared of Russia. I really trusted Reagan and how he handled things. I’m glad I did. I turned 10 in 1980 so was just coming aware of that stuff. Not too smart, but not too young.
